An all-party meeting will be held to finalise the July Revolution’s proclamation.
The Interim Government, led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, will hold an all-party conference at the Foreign Service Academy from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday (January 16), the chief adviser’s press wing sources said.
On January 14, Adviser Mahfuj Alam at a press briefing said that the council of advisers formulated a draft of the July proclamation and held talks with some political parties, including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and many stakeholders to get their opinions.
He hoped that the all-party meeting on Thursday would reach a consensus to finalise the document of the July proclamation.
What started as a movement against discriminatory public sector job quotas soon turned into a mass movement that toppled the government of Sheikh Hasina, ending her 15-year grip on the country. More than 1,500 people were killed and thousands were injured as Hasina’s government cracked down on the protesters.
The Dr Yunus-led interim government took charge on August 8, three days after Hasina fled to India.
The proclamation will be prepared based on the opinions of all participating students, political parties and entities, including the anti-discrimination student movement that led the uprising.
The perspectives of the July uprising, the basis of unity and the expectations of the people will be expressed in the proclamation, the press wing said.
