Mahfuj Alam, adviser to the interim government, said that the proclamation for the July uprising will be prepared in consultation with all stakeholders.
He urged students to remain patient, acknowledging their demand to finalize the proclamation by January 15 but hinted that the timeline might be extended.
He said this during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.
Speaking at a press briefing, Mahfuj Alam said: “The students declared their intent to present a proclamation.”
He added: “However, the government realized that if the matter proceeds solely from the students' side, it could harm Bangladesh’s stability and unity. Therefore, the government has taken the responsibility of preparing a proclamation in consultation with all parties.”
He also said: “We are hopeful that the government will consult with all parties involved in the uprising and decide, with consensus, on the proclamation’s content and release date by next week. Discussions with political parties on this matter will begin next week.”
Responding to a question, Mahfuj Alam said: “The students wanted the proclamation by January 15, but this timeline might be slightly extended. However, it won’t take much longer—perhaps just a few days beyond their deadline.”
He further said: “If it is possible to meet the January 15 target with everyone’s agreement, we will do so. The government’s goal is to proceed based on consensus from all parties.”
He concluded by expressing optimism, saying, “We believe the students will show patience and restraint. A proclamation formed through mutual understanding will benefit Bangladesh as a whole.”
