BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that the lost rule of law, independent judiciary, pluralism and a political system with a path must be built.
The BNP acting chairman made this statement in a press release signed by the party's Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Friday (December 13) on the occasion of Martyred Intellectuals Day.
In his message, Tarique Rahman said, "On the occasion of Martyred Intellectuals' Day, I pay my humble respects to the immortal memory of the country's first-class martyred intellectuals who were martyred at the hands of the invading forces and their allies during the Liberation War in 1971. I pray for the forgiveness of their souls."
He said, Martyred Intellectuals Day is a touching and sorrowful day in the history of the nation. The immortal intellectuals were the best children of the country who were born in a short time, who wanted to see a prosperous and high-headed nation. They expected a democratic state based on justice and free from exploitation. But the allies of the invading forces carried out this massacre planned to demoralize independent Bangladesh on the eve of the final victory.
The acting chairman of BNP said, immediately after independence, undemocratic forces opened their masks and started taking away the universal democratic rights of the people of the country one by one, like the Pakistani occupation forces. The independence and sovereignty of our state, which was obtained in exchange for a river of blood and sacrifice, is weakening day by day and the hopes of the martyred intellectuals in building a democratic state and society are being dashed. Carrying on the tradition of that misrule, their successors, the Awami fascists, created obstacles in the way of building a united nation and national progress through division, disunity and narrow-mindedness, disappearances, murders and crossfires and sent democracy into exile. Therefore, instead of democratic development of our state and turning the country into a prosperous, self-reliant and strong state, they created an atmosphere of one-party misrule.
Tarique Rahman said, "So, in today's changed political situation, we have to unite again and practice true democracy. We have to build the lost rule of law, an independent judiciary, and a political system of pluralism and diversity. In this regard, the martyred intellectuals will continue to serve as our source of inspiration."
He said, "On this sad day, I appeal to the countrymen - let us work together to build the Bangladesh of the expectations of the martyred intellectuals. I express my deep condolences to the families of the martyred intellectuals."
