1 killed in Gazipur factory fire

One killed and several injured as a fire broke out at the M&U Trims manufacturing factory in the Vhangati (Mollapara) area of Sripur Municipality, Gazipur, on Sunday at around 1:30pm.

Upon receiving the news, a total of seven firefighting units, including two from Chorer Mauna, two from Rajendrapur and three from Bhogra Fire Service in Gazipur, arrived at the scene and began working to control the blaze.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be known.

According to locals, the factory produces buttons, and smoke was seen rising from the building around noon, signaling the start of the fire.

The fire spread to nearby residential houses on the southern side of the factory, prompting locals to join firefighters in efforts to contain it.

When the fire reached the chemical warehouse on the southern side of the factory, two chemical drums exploded as firefighters, factory workers and residents tried to move them to safety.

As of now, no casualties have been reported, but the extent of the damage is yet to be determined by the Fire Service and the factory authorities.

Mahmudul Hasan, the Inspector of Mauna Fire Service, mentioned that due to a lack of water supply at the factory, firefighters had to source water from nearby houses to assist in extinguishing the fire.
