Hasnat: Some spreading rumors we fled the country sitting in India

Hasnat Abdullah is speaking as the chief guest during a discussion meeting organized by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in the Dhamti Union of Debidwar Upazila on Friday evening, January 24, 2025.

Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Central Convenor Hasnat Abdullah criticized those spreading rumors from India that he and others had fled the country, calling it baseless and saying they had only returned to their own homes.

He made these remarks as the chief guest during a discussion meeting organized by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in the Dhamti Union of Debidwar Upazila on Friday evening.

Hasnat Abdullah said: "Thousands of cases have been filed in the country against leaders and activists of BNP, Jamaat, and anti-fascist political parties. They have been arrested and tortured. Even imams and Islamic scholars have faced oppression. People wake up in Dhaka only to find themselves accused in arson cases in Chauddagram. We’ve seen all this during the fascist regime."

He further said: "A political divide has been created in the country. Ultimately, who benefits from this division? Those who have fled to India. We need to eliminate this division and remain united in the national interest. Leaders must be people-oriented, not power-oriented. Be careful about which leaders you follow and support. If a leader is oppressive, a rights violator, or grabs others' land, we don’t need that leader."

The leader of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement also said: "After the fall of fascism, leaders fled to India and Dubai to enjoy luxury and comfort. They didn’t take any of their activists with them. Now, those same activists are unable to live peacefully in their homes."

The discussion meeting, held on the grounds of Dhamti Government Primary School, was moderated by union student representative Zahidul Babu.
