Professor Mujibur Rahman, Deputy Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former Member of Parliament, criticized the government for its 15 years of "fascist rule," alleging widespread oppression, torture, and persecution across the country. He particularly highlighted that the officers and employees of the Islamic Foundation have also fallen victim to such mistreatment.
Professor Rahman made these remarks as the chief guest at the special general meeting of the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh Workers and Employees Union (Reg: B-1950), held at the Islamic Foundation auditorium of the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram. Around 500 members from various branches of the union, including the main office, divisions, districts, Islamic missions, Imam Training Academy, Darul Arkam Madrasa, Model Mosques, and mosque-based child and mass education programs, attended the meeting.
He called for immediate attention to the issues facing the workers, including the need for justice, reforming the Islamic Foundation into a department, addressing illegal recruitment practices, transferring outsourcing projects, and initiating promotions for all posts.
Advocate Atiqur Rahman, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Workers Welfare Federation, attended as a special guest. He condemned the commercialization of recruitment and transfers, as well as the hijacking of trade unions. He declared that the era of exploitation and oppression was over and that the Workers Welfare Federation and its allied unions would no longer tolerate injustice.
Other speakers included Mohibullah and Mohammad Abdus Salam, Assistant General Secretaries of the Bangladesh Workers Welfare Federation and Presidents of Dhaka North and South City Units, respectively. The meeting was chaired by former union president Muhammad Obaidur Rahman, with former General Secretary Kazi Mohammad Nazirul Islam conducting the proceedings.
In the presence of officials from the Department of Labour, the attendees unanimously decided to amend and update the constitutions of three unions, forming a three-member sub-committee to oversee the revisions. Another sub-committee was established to address necessary constitutional amendments.
The event concluded with calls for unity and action to address the grievances of Islamic Foundation workers.
