Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, has called for the nation to observe 'Martyred Intellectuals Day' on December 14 and 'Great Victory Day' on December 16 with due respect and solemnity. In a statement released on Friday, Dr. Rahman expressed deep respect for the contributions of all martyred intellectuals and freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence in 1971. He prayed to Almighty Allah for the forgiveness of their souls.
Dr. Rahman highlighted the immense importance of these two days in Bangladesh's national history, remembering those who participated in the liberation war and paid the ultimate price for the country's freedom. He also offered prayers for the souls of those martyred during the July-August mass uprising, extending condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing a swift recovery to the injured.
He further stated that the countrymen are observing these national days at a time when the people of Bangladesh have united to rid the nation of a repressive regime. He remarked that the nation is healing from years of misrule, torture, and forced disappearances, and is now on a path to economic recovery. However, he cautioned against efforts by both domestic and foreign elements of the former dictatorship that are attempting to destabilize the country. Dr. Rahman urged the people to remain united and resist any anti-national conspiracies.
Dr. Rahman also called on all branches of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the people of Bangladesh to honor these historic days through meetings, rallies, and prayers, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the country's independence, sovereignty, and human rights.
In conclusion, he conveyed his heartfelt greetings to the people on the occasion of the 'Great Victory Day', wishing the nation peace, prosperity, and well-being.
