To raise public awareness about the July Proclamation, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the Jatiya Nagorik Committee will distribute leaflets, hold rallies, and engage in public outreach across the country from January 6 to 11.
The program was announced during a joint press conference held on Saturday at the central office of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at Rupayan Centre in Banglamotor, Dhaka.
Hasnat Abdullah, the convenor of the movement, made the announcement alongside the Jatiya Nagorik Committee.
Hasnat Abdullah said: "To understand the people's hopes and aspirations regarding the July Uprising Proclamation, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the Jatiya Nagorik Committee will carry out a public outreach program nationwide from January 6 to 11."
He added: "On December 31, at the Shaheed Minar during the March for Unity, we demanded that the proclamation be made by January 15 under the interim government. Every individual in the country participated in the uprising, and the proclamation will reflect the people's aspirations.”
He also said: “We aim to reach out to the masses by engaging with students at educational institutions and professionals across the nation. This initiative will be carried out jointly by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the Jatiya Nagorik Committee."
Claiming that the government has made no visible progress regarding the proclamation, Hasnat Abdullah said: "Discussions with all stakeholders involved in the uprising are necessary. We urge the government to act promptly on this critical matter.”
He added: “We are ready to extend all kinds of support to the government. The fascist regime strangled the voices of the people. We are determined to reach out to the grassroots and amplify their voices."
Nasiruddin Patwary, the convenor of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee, said: "The government’s actions on drafting the proclamation remain invisible. If the government does not take steps on this matter immediately, we will announce a stricter program."
He called on everyone to unite in drafting a proclamation that reflects the hopes and aspirations of the people.
He further said: "All political parties have responded positively to the proclamation's formulation. While there are differences in perspectives, the drafting process is proceeding based on collective opinions."
The press conference was also attended by Samanta Sharmin, spokesperson for the Jatiya Nagorik Committee, Saleh Uddin Sifat, deputy spokesperson, and Abdul Hannan Masud, chief organizer of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
