Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said that the Election Commission (EC) is preparing for the election according to the government's set timeline alongside not aligning with any political party and is working within the framework of the constitution.
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) handed over essential equipment, including laptops, scanners, and other tools for updating the voter list at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, Dhaka on Sunday morning.
During the event, the CEC made these remarks.
He emphasized that the EC does not wish to get involved in politics and that the people of the country expect a free, fair, and impartial election from them.
The EC is committed to fulfilling that expectation.
To dispel any doubts, he assured that the voter list update process would be carried out with transparency.
The CEC further mentioned that the EC had requested assistance from the UNDP for the voter list update process and they had responded quickly.
He expressed the EC's desire for continued support from the UNDP throughout the entire election process, noting that they share a common goal of ensuring a fair election.
UNDP Resident Representative Steffen Liller mentioned that discussions would take place with political parties and other stakeholders to determine how cooperation could be best organized.
At the event, the Election Commission received 175 laptops, 200 scanners and 4,300 bags for data collection from door to door as part of the voter list update process.
