A 35-year-old Indian citizen was detained by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) for illegal entry through the Hili border in Dinajpur late on Wednesday.

The detainee, identified as Abdur Rahman, hails from Barabuian village in Bihar’s Araria district, under the jurisdiction of Ghurna police station, according to the BGB.

Subedar Md Shahadat Hossain of the BGB’s Hili CP Camp said Rahman entered Bangladesh illegally through pillar No 285/9 of the Hili border. Later, BGB members detained and brought him to their camp for questioning.

Hakimpur police station officer-in-charge Sujan Mia said the BGB turned over the detained Indian citizen to police around 10pm, adding that a case has been filed in this connection.

Rahman was sent to jail by a Dinajpur court on Thursday morning, he added.
