1,900 tons of Indian potatoes arrive in Bangladesh

A shipment of 1,900 tons of potatoes has arrived in Bangladesh from neighbouring India, officials said on Wednesday.
An Indian freight train, carrying the potatoes, arrived at Benapole Railway Station through the country’s largest Benapole land port in Jessore at around 9:30pm on Tuesday, said Station Master Saiduzzaman.
The train with 42 wagons loaded with potatoes came from India’s Punjab. “Deluxe International of West Bengal’s Malda exported it.”
Faruk Iqbal Dablu, a representative of Bangladesh Logistic Service, said the potato-laden train left for Noapara from the station for unloading after completing customs and railway formalities at night.
The potatoes will be sent to different parts of the country, including Dhaka and Chittagong, he said.
Benapole port Deputy Director Rashedul Sajib Nazir said the shipment consists of 38,000 sacks of potatoes.
Per kilogram of potato has been bought from India at Tk28.5, he said.
