The full verdict of the Appellate Division has revealed that there were no legal flaws in the High Court's decision to cancel five labour law cases filed against Interim Government Adviser and Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus, and no need for interference was found.

On Saturday, the three-judge Appellate Division, led by Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam, dismissed the State's leave-to-appeal request against the High Court's ruling. Dr Yunus’ lawyer, Barrister Mustafizur Rahman, later confirmed the order.

Earlier, on December 8, the Appellate Division, under Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam dismissed the State’s leave-to-appeal against the High Court ruling.

The Appellate Division's order said: “There was no legal flaw in the High Court’s decision and no need for legal interference. Accordingly, the leave-to-appeal requests were dismissed.”

The five cases against Dr Muhammad Yunus were filed in 2019 when he was the chairman of Grameen Telecommunications. The lawsuits stemmed from allegations of worker layoffs related to the proposed trade union.

In 2020, Dr Yunus filed separate petitions in the High Court seeking the cancellation of these proceedings. After hearing the petitions, the High Court issued a ruling and order.

Following the final hearing of the rule on October 24 last year, the High Court declared the rule absolute (final) and cancelled the cases.

In response, the State filed five separate leave-to-appeal petitions against the High Court ruling. After the hearings, the Appellate Division dismissed those petitions on December 8.
