Namaz-e-janaza of Adviser Hassan Ariff held at High Court

The second namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayer) for AF Hassan Ariff, a senior lawyer of the Bangladesh Supreme Court and an adviser to the interim government, was held at 11am on Saturday at the inner garden of the Supreme Court.
The Chief Justice of Bangladesh Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed, along with Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain, Dr Kamal Hossain, Barrister M Amirul Islam, the Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman, the chief election commissioner, the secretary general of Jamaat, Supreme Court judges, senior advocate Zainul Abedin, and Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal, among other law professionals, attended the prayer.
Following the namaz-e-janaza, the chief justice and others paid their respects by laying floral wreaths on the deceased's body. After the tribute, the body was taken to the Secretariat for the third namaz-e-janaza.
While reflecting on Hassan Ariff’s contributions, Dr Kamal Hossain said: “He was an honest and dedicated individual. He stood by everyone, regardless of political affiliations, and provided legal assistance. His loss has left us deeply saddened.”
AF Hassan Ariff passed away on Friday at 3:10pm at Labaid Hospital in Dhaka.
He had served as the adviser for the Ministry of Land and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism in the interim government. From January 2008 to January 2009, he also held the position of adviser for the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs under the then-interim government. Additionally, he served as the attorney general of Bangladesh from October 2001 to April 2005.
Born on July 10, 1941 in Kolkata, AF Hassan Ariff began his legal career in 1967 as a lawyer at the Kolkata High Court. He was enrolled as a lawyer in the erstwhile East Pakistan High Court in 1970. Since then, he had been practising law at the country’s highest court without interruption.
