The BNP on Tuesday submitted 62 proposals to the Constitutional Reform Commission, including the reintroduction of the positions of vice president and deputy prime minister.

The party's proposals also include introducing a provision to limit a prime minister's tenure to no more than two consecutive terms, the creation of a second chamber in parliament and provisions for referendums.

A two-member delegation, led by BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, submitted a written copy of the proposals to Prof Ali Riaz, head of the Constitutional Reform Commission, at the Parliament Building.

Speaking to reporters, Salahuddin said the proposals were submitted to ensure a balance of power in line with the wishes of the people.

"We made proposals concerning the judiciary, as well as recommendations for the establishment of vice president and a deputy prime minister posts. We have addressed all aspects relating to the executive, judiciary and legislative branches to ensure a balance of power,” he said.

The BNP leader said the Constitutional Reform Commission will present the proposals to the government for consideration.

He said he hopes that their proposals can be implemented through discussions with other political parties.
