50 Injured in violent clash between two villages in Faridpur

At least 50 people, including the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nagarkanda police station, were injured in a violent clash between residents of two villages in Faridpur's Nagarkanda, on Saturday.
The incident, fueled by a power struggle, saw homes and businesses vandalized, leaving the area in turmoil.
Among the injured, 30 individuals have been admitted to hospitals for treatment.
The clash occurred between the residents of Salitha village in Fulsuti union and Mirakanda village in Nagarkanda municipality.
According to witnesses and locals, the conflict stemmed from a Waz Mahfil held at Salitha madrasa on Friday night.
During the event, tensions over local dominance escalated, leading to a chase and counter-chase between residents of Mirakanda and Salitha.
Police intervened to restore order that night, but the situation remained tense.
On Saturday morning, announcements were made from the local mosque, prompting hundreds of residents from both villages to arm themselves with makeshift weapons, shields, and bricks.
The ensuing confrontation lasted until 11am, involving intense clashes and destruction.
During the violence, several homes and shops in both villages were attacked, looted, and vandalized, spreading panic among women and children in the area.
At least 50 people, including six police officers and the OC, sustained injuries.
Of them, 30 have been admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and Nagarkanda upazila health complex.
Faridpur’s Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Nagarkanda Circle), Md Asaduzzaman Shakil, said: “Police responded promptly to bring the situation under control. Several police officers, including the OC, were injured during the operation. The situation is now calm, and additional police forces have been deployed to prevent further incidents.”
