Dhaka to issue formal statement over Modi's social media post on December 16

The Foreign Ministry will send an official response to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's X post regarding December 16, 1971.

In this regard, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain said: “Law Adviser Asif Nazrul has expressed his own opinion on Narendra Modi's tweet; we will respond in our own way.”

He added: “The Indian foreign minister has congratulated me by name on the occasion of Victory Day.”

The foreign adviser was speaking with the journalists on Tuesday night at the Foreign Ministry in Dhaka,

In a December 16 post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to the day as Victory Day, praised the Indian soldiers who died in 1971, and described the day as a victory for India.

CA to visit Egypt

Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus is set to visit Egypt on Thursday to attend the D-8 Summit.

Regarding this, the foreign adviser said: “Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus is going to participate in the D-8 Summit in Egypt. The D-8 is significant for us because it includes several important member states.”

He also mentioned that the chief adviser will meet with other heads of state on the sidelines of the summit.

Touhid’s Thailand visit

The foreign affairs adviser is traveling to Bangkok at the invitation of the Thai Foreign Minister to participate in an informal discussion on Rohingya and Myanmar issues.

He said: “This discussion will be somewhat different from formal negotiations. There are three main topics here: borders, crime, and the situation in Myanmar.”

Md Touhid Hossain further said: “What I will say depends on the discussions held there. It would not be appropriate to comment in advance.”

He emphasized that Bangladesh's primary concern is the safety and rights of the 1.3 million Rohingya refugees currently residing in Bangladesh and ensuring their safe repatriation.
