Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of BNP's standing committee, said that the interim government should not have raised VAT. He added that if the BNP comes to power through elections, development work will begin from the first day across all sectors, including the economy, education, and healthcare.
He made these statements on Saturday during a discussion organized by Mukto Chinta Bangladesh at the National Press Club to mark the 89th birth anniversary of BNP's founder and former President Ziaur Rahman.
Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said: "A qualitative change in politics is necessary. No nation can progress by engaging in politics of revenge and retribution.”
He added: “However, those who have long helped create Sheikh Hasina as a fascist must apologize to the nation and atone for their sins."
Calling on professionals who have supported Sheikh Hasina's crimes to seek forgiveness, he said: "Those directly involved in enforced disappearances and killings must be given exemplary punishment."
