Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman pledged to establish a nation free from corruption, discrimination, and violence if his party comes to power. He made the statement during a rally held at the Islamia High School grounds in Gaibandha, where he addressed a large gathering as the chief guest.
Dr. Shafiqur emphasized that ensuring the welfare of Gaibandha's residents would be his top priority. "Initiatives will be taken to develop industries that promote agricultural growth while improving education and healthcare for the district’s people," he said. "Unemployment will be eradicated by creating jobs and providing opportunities for the educated youth."
The Jamaat chief also criticized the government for alleged mismanagement and human rights violations, including incidents such as the Pilkhana massacre and the killings of Hefazat-e-Islam leaders and activists at Shapla Square. "Thousands of bodies were dumped into drains under the cover of darkness. Despite being indirectly involved, the authoritarian Awami League staged dramas to deflect blame," he claimed.
Dr. Shafiqur further pointed out that the investigation report of the Pilkhana massacre remains undisclosed. "The fascist Sheikh Hasina regime mocked these killings, but today, she herself is on the run and unable to console her party leaders and activists," he added.
He accused the Awami League government of perpetuating bloodshed and oppression over the past 15 and a half years. Highlighting the 'logi-boitha' violence of 2006, he alleged that 54 lives were lost during the Awami League’s political unrest.
Dr. Shafiqur concluded by urging citizens to unite for change, promising a future of justice, progress, and equality under Jamaat-e-Islami’s leadership.
