ICT orders completion of probe into eight former officials in two months

The International Crimes Tribunal has ordered the completion of investigations within two months against eight former officials, including former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun and former director general of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) Major General (Retd) Ziaul Ahsan, in cases filed over mass killings and crimes against humanity in July-August.
The three-member tribunal led by Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder issued the order on Thursday, seeking a progress report on the investigation by February 20.
Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam, along with BM Sultan Mahmud and Gazi MH Tamim, represented the prosecution during the hearing.
Earlier, the eight officials were summoned to the International Crimes Tribunal.
They are former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former NTMC director general Ziaul Ahsan, former superintendent of police of Dhaka district Md Abdullah Al Kafi, former DMP deputy commissioner for Mirpur Md Jasim Uddin Molla, former additional superintendent of police (Savar circle) Md Shahidur Islam, former officer-in-charge (OC) of Gulshan police station Mazharul Haque, former OC of Jatrabari police station Abul Hasan and former Detective Branch (North) inspector Md Arafat Hossain.
