Fakhrul: Hopefully elections will be held very soon

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed hope that an election would be held soon in accordance with the people's will, allowing them the opportunity to elect their representatives through a free, fair, and impartial process.

On Saturday morning, Mirza Fakhrul went to the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur to pay tribute to the intellectuals who were martyred in 1971. After paying tribute, he spoke to reporters.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said: "July 36 or August 5 created a new opportunity by defeating the fascist forces. By taking advantage of this opportunity, we want to establish Bangladesh as a truly democratic, modern state and a state without discrimination."

Recalling the Martyred Intellectuals Day, Mirza Fakhrul said: "On this day in 1971, on the eve of victory, the Pakistani occupying forces abducted and killed prominent journalists, intellectuals, professors, scientists and civil society figures of Bangladesh. In 1971, we lost eminent people of the nation. On behalf of the Nationalist Party, on behalf of the party's Chairperson Khaleda Zia and on behalf of the acting chairman Tarique Rahman, we all paid tribute today and seek forgiveness for the martyred intellectuals."

Mirza Fakhrul further said that the people of Bangladesh fought for the construction of an independent, democratic and prosperous Bangladesh in 1971. This was done through the declaration of the War of Liberation by martyr president Ziaur Rahman.

At that time, BNP Standing Committee members Nazrul Islam Khan, Dr Moyeen Khan, Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Dhaka Metropolitan North Convener Aminul Islam, Dhaka Metropolitan South Convener Abdus Salam and other leaders and workers of the party at various levels were present.

After paying their respects, various organizations of the party paid tribute to the martyred intellectuals.
