A Dhaka court on Tuesday acquitted BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council member Zainul Abedin Farroque from a case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for not submitting wealth statement.

Dhaka Divisional Special Judge SM Ziaur Rahman passed the order as the prosecution failed to prove the charges framed against Farroque.

According to the case documents, the ACC in 1999 issued a notice, asking Zainul Abedin Farroque to submit his wealth statement from July 9 to August 22 of that year.

The former lawmaker, however, failed to submit the statement.

The ACC on January 19, 2000, filed a case against the BNP leader and submitted a charge-sheet on June 17, 2001.

The court framed charges against him on March 23, 2006, initiating the trial officially.

A total of three witnesses were examined in the trial.
