Home Adviser: Extortion will be strictly suppressed

Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said extortion has increased in the country and will be strictly suppressed, with urgent measures needed to stop it.

He made these remarks on Wednesday, following a meeting at the Secretariat’s conference room.

The adviser said: "No criminal will be spared, regardless of who they are."

Police officers who have come from outside Dhaka will need some time to familiarize themselves with the city’s alleyways, he noted.

Jahangir added that while Dhaka’s law and order has improved, further progress is needed.

For now, street shops will be removed, but sidewalk shops will remain, he said.
