President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Tuesday sought cooperation from the Philippines government to bring back entire amount of stolen reserves of Bangladesh Bank (BB) to the country.

"Some $81 million was stolen from Bangladesh Bank through Rizal Commercial Bank Corporation (RCBC) in 2016 and around $15 million has been recovered so far. The intervention of the Philippine government to recover the rest of $66 million is needed," he said, expressing hope that the Philippine government would cooperate with Bangladesh to this end.

The head of state said this as Nina Padilla Cainglet, the newly appointed ambassador of the Philippines to Bangladesh, presented her credentials to him in the afternoon.

Subsequently, President's Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam briefed the media.

Welcoming the new ambassador, the president said Bangladesh has always attached great importance to friendly relations with the Philippines.

He said Bangladesh and the Philippines would work together to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the days to come.
