Jatiya Nagorik Committee Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain has announced that the Jatiya Nagorik Committee and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement will announce a moderate political party by next February.
He made the remarks while interacting with journalists during a public meeting at Kaunia Bazar in Rangpur on Thursday.
He alleged that many people are planning to bring the Awami League into the next election.
He warned that the Awami League will not be allowed to engage in the politics of Bangladesh. The people of the country will stand against those who attempt to bring the Awami League to the polls.
Earlier, he distributed blankets among 1,000 destitute women and men at the Kaunia Girls' High School playground.
At that time, Rangpur organizer Alamgir Nayan, M Alamgir Kabir, engineer Sheikhrezwan, MI Sumon, Khandaker Mainul Haque Mim, Rifat Hasan and others were with him.
Akhtar Hossain, member secretary of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee, also said: “The people of Bangladesh have come to the movement of 2024. Through this, they wanted to build Bangladesh in a new form. The people of Bangladesh want reforms from that place of want.”
He added: “People want a new constitution. From there, the Constituent Assembly has the mandate to make the constitution. We are campaigning for a Constituent Assembly election. We think that the next election in Bangladesh will be a Constituent Assembly election.”
"We're making it clear that we won't allow the Awami League to return to politics until the trial of the heinous genocide committed by killer Hasina and her associates in Bangladesh. The people of Bangladesh have united against the Awami League," he also said.
"The people of Bangladesh will deploy all their strength against those who are trying to bring them to the polls. If we see any activities of fallen fascists in Bangladesh, whether on Facebook or elsewhere, we will ask the enforcers to take stern action against them," he further added.
Akhtar Hossain said: "BNP did not participate in the elections of 14, 18 or 24. As a result, those elections have been proven to be one-sided elections. Many people think that if the Awami League is not in the election, then it can also be considered a one-sided election. Such thinking is not right.”
He continued: “The political party that is coming in the next month is going to emerge under the initiative of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. We hope to see that political party by February.”
“In the meantime, we have formed 200 thana committees. More than 400 thana committees will be formed by this January. We will officially announce the party in February. Many names have been suggested. We are discussing that the name of the party will be finalized after the selection,” he added.
Replying to a question from journalists, he said: “The party will emerge from a moderate political practice in Bangladesh. We will not tolerate the long-standing Islamophobia in Bangladesh. Similarly, we will not tolerate Hindu extremism or Muslim extremism.”
Akhtar added: “The people of Bangladesh want to live happily and in harmony. We dream of a moderate Bangladesh of harmony. That's where our political party comes from.”
Later, he held a view exchange meeting with the students of Kaunia and Pirgacha upazilas at Rangpur Carmichael College and Begum Rokeya University.
