Hasnat Abdullah: Shaheed Minar to witness declaration against Constitution by Mujib

Hasnat Abdullah

Hasnat Abdullah, one of the central coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, on Sunday expressed the need to lay the Constitution by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to rest, saying that its "grave" would be written from the same place where the one-point demand was announced.

On Tuesday, the leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement are set to announce the "Proclamation of the July Revolution."

This declaration will be made at 3pm at the Central Shaheed Minar.

To share details of what the proclamation will entail, central leaders called an emergency press conference where one of the movement's key coordinators, Sarjis Alam, provided a comprehensive explanation.

During the press conference, Hasnat Abdullah said: "Better late than never. The proclamation of our revolutionary uprising should have been made on August 5. The delay has allowed pro-fascist forces to continue conspiring from abroad and questioning the legitimacy of the revolution through media, intellectual circles, and various other platforms. These efforts undermine the sacrifice of over 2,000 martyrs and more than 20,000 injured."

He further said: "Through the July Uprising, people have taken a stand against the Constitution of 1972. This opposition from the masses needs to be documented legally. Therefore, on Tuesday at 3pm, in the presence of students and the public, we will formally institutionalize and document the public's aspirations and the movement against the 1972 Constitution that led people to take to the streets."

Hasnat Abdullah added: "The Proclamation of the July Revolution will outline the dreams, aspirations, intentions, goals, and manifesto for the future of Bangladesh. It belongs to no specific party or class. Over the course of history, our dreams have been betrayed at various levels.

"Through this proclamation, we aim to ensure that such deprivation does not recur. The manifesto will be a reflection of the hopes and aspirations of the masses and will be presented to the nation," he said.
