Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus has announced that over 12.6 million people are currently benefiting from the social safety net program.

In a message marking the upcoming National Social Service Day-2025, which will be observed on Thursday, he explained that the program’s allowances are now reaching people's doorsteps through mobile financial services and banks via the Government-to-Person (G2P) system, thanks to the use of information technology. As of now, 1,26,39,866 individuals are being served by the program.

The total allocation for the program in the fiscal year 2024-25 is Tk10,559.94 crore. Professor Yunus commended the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Department of Social Services for effectively managing 54 public welfare-based programs despite limited resources and manpower.

He also highlighted the significant contributions of social service activities, noting that millions of people—including students and those injured in the July Revolution—receive medical care and assistance at hospitals every year.

The Department of Social Services, under the Ministry of Social Welfare, continues to work tirelessly for the welfare and development of the country's most vulnerable populations, including the elderly, disadvantaged children, women facing domestic violence, the seriously ill, and marginalized communities.

Professor Yunus emphasized that the successful implementation of social safety net programs is a testament to the dedication of the Department of Social Services.

This year’s theme for National Social Service Day, "Those who have no one by their side, have social service" ("Nei Pashe Kew Jar, Somaj Seba Ache Tar"), was described by the Chief Adviser as both timely and fitting.

Professor Yunus concluded by wishing success to all programs held in celebration of National Social Service Day 2025.
