A Dhaka court on Wednesday rejected the bail of former Member of Parliament Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman in connection with two attempted murder cases in Mirpur police station and one murder case in Khilgaon police station, all related to the anti-discrimination student movement.
After hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defense, Dhaka's 8th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Shihabul Islam, delivered the ruling.
Earlier, Suman’s lawyer, Md Bakkar Siddique, had filed a bail application for him in these three cases.
During the bail hearing, the prosecution's lawyers opposed granting bail.
According to the attempted murder case in Mirpur police station, on July 19, youth leader of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and cook of Bangaliana Bhoj in Mirpur, Hridoy Mia, participated in the quota reform movement in Mirpur-10.
During this time, he was shot in the right leg by police and Awami League activists.
Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman was arrested in connection with this case and was remanded for five days.
In the other attempted murder case in Mirpur police station, on July 19, Adham Bin Amin was participating in a movement demanding quota reform at Mirpur-10.
When police and Awami League activists opened fire, Amin was shot in both knees.
On October 22, his brother, Akibun Noor, filed an attempted murder case in this regard.
Meanwhile, in the Khilgaon police station murder case, it is known that during the anti-discrimination student movement on July 19 at around 3pm, Mizanur Rahman was shot in the leg in the Banasree area of Khilgaon.
He was taken to the National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopedic Rehabilitation, where he died at 5:40pm due to excessive bleeding.
Mizanur's father, Md Kamal Hossain, filed a murder case with the Khilgaon police station on September 2.
